Eligible SSDI beneficiaries will receive a mailing inviting them to participate in POD.
To speak with someone who can help you understand more about your eligibility, please call the POD call center at 1-888-771-9188 and choose option 1.
If you have received a POD mailing, complete the consent form and survey in the mailing and mail them back using the postage-paid envelope. If you need help completing the consent form or survey, call the POD call center at 1-888-771-9188 and choose option 2.
If you have not received a POD mailing, and you’re interested in participating, call the POD call center at 888-771-9188 and choose option 2. Call center staff will check your eligibility and mail you the consent form and survey if you are eligible.
The new POD rules will allow you to keep some of your benefits when your earnings are high enough that you would otherwise lose all of your benefits under current SSA rules. If you discover that current rules are better for you, you can switch back at any time. See Understanding the new POD rules and How earnings from work affect benefits for more information.
You could benefit from the new POD rules if you plan to regularly earn more than $1,200 a month for longer than a year. If you are blind, you could benefit from POD if you plan to regularly earn more than $2,000 a month for longer than a year.
We encourage you to call the POD call center at 1-888-771-9188 and choose option 1 to learn whether POD might be right for you. You can also use POD scenarios and calculator to see examples of how the new POD rules affect beneficiaries with different benefits and earnings or design your own example.
If you are selected for the new POD rules, in some situations, your benefits could be lower or could terminate earlier under POD than under current rules. We encourage you to review the POD Scenarios and Calculator to learn more about how POD works.
If you have any questions about these risks as you are considering applying for POD, please contact us at 1-888-771-9188 option 1
